ISO: PART II

In Part I of this series, Brisbane photographers Callie Marshall, Chris Mehmet and Curdin spoke to us about how they’re responding to COVID-19, and how they’re staying positive despite the pandemic’s impact on their work.

Now it’s time for Andre Cois, Dean Swindell and Markus Ravik to share.

In his own words…

After the initial shock of this COVID-19 induced lock down had worn off, I started to look at the whole thing as a little unsolicited character development. I’m confident that all people working within my industry, and other vendors working in this industry will come out stronger and able to handle any hurdle that work can throw at us.

Currently I’m working on getting a dedicated Photo/Art print store set up for my personal work, which is something I have always wanted to do but never put the time into.

Dean Swindell

In his own words…

Fortunately, the projects I was attached to (that were outside the event space) began to adapt to the restrictions fairly immediately, albeit a scaled down version of the original concept.

‘How to’ videos replaced brand videos and live content replaced promotional content. The focus is now on how we can help each other instead ourselves and I think that’s a silver lining in this situation.

Hello Please_Dean Swindell_December 2019 (16 of 16).jpg

I'm trying to keep an optimistic outlook that this forced time off is to entertain creative ideas that you otherwise wouldn’t have. Is furniture restoration something I’m into now? Not sure, but let’s give it a crack.

I’m enjoying the time out. Most of my days are spent cycling at home, compiling playlists of Brisbane bands, gardening and taking time to take a break from my usual Monday to Friday work routine.

Markus Ravik

In his own words…

I feel like my self isolation experience might be a bit different to other creatives, it’s been less about what to do next or what to do about the jobs I’ve lost and more about how to fill all this spare time.

Mostly, my time has been filled with focusing on supporting my wife, as she works in finance and has been working from home during the self isolation.

We’re lucky she has that option but things are pretty stressful right now for people financially and she’s dealing with the brunt of it.

So, I’m just doing my best to support her and be there for her, whether it’s sneaking her toast or making sure there’s plenty of cold brew, or at the end of a long day making sure Animal Crossing is ready to go on her Switch, hah!

Other than that, I’ve been trying to push prints of some of my old photos just to help out with rent and whatnot.
